the second chapter in petit singe’s travel through akash ganga comes in the form of four remixes curated by members and friends of the haunter records extended family. they all applied their peculiar agencies and experience to the original recordings. danse noire boss and spiritual explorer aïsha devi combined elements from all the tracks of the album with her own production to assemble “necromedia”, a powerful take on the sidereal source material. haunter veteran weightausend delivers a psycho-dub version of the frantic “oxo”, while zuli (of vent and uiq fame) deconstructs the same track turning into a kind of post-human and post-colonial beat he labeled “astrogangsta”. the final track is an alteration of the album’s finale “27.09.87” by canadian experimenter jesse osborne-lanthier, who let it mutate like a self-sufficent biodigital organism, opening it up for new experiences.

brothers black kick off their self-titled label with brbl001, a four-track original techno ep. following prior releases on their own joint imprint, bade records, and family labels safer at night and voxnox records, brbl is a new home where the pair will curate their own sound and productions. the pair kick off the a-side with creep oder was? , a stripped down vocal banger that teams hard-edged percussion with an acidic lead. the a2, axe to grind , combines dub chords with raw rolling percussion to create a deep hypnotic atmosphere. on the flip side, the b1 only human is a tense, driving tool with industrial tones that s perfect for the peak time hours. the b2, imagination barrier , is a frantic 140bpm techno exploration that combines the duo s signature vocals with heavily 90s influenced percussion.

lucidflow make a ninth journey onto wax with label co-owner nadja lind s tribe dub , and no punches have been pulled with the array of top drawer remixers on board - featuring brendon moeller, tigerskin & jack jenson, and terry lee brown jnr. nadja s original fires on all cylinders with a frantic sub-bass assault that isn t going to be happy unless your lungs have been thoroughly bruised by a main room s speaker stack. as the bass tumbles, phasing dub stabs gracefully arc into the stratosphere and back again.

new years deal - the next chapter in the creme organization ecplise series comes from cosmic garden with three original tracks and one remix from orgue electronique. little is known about cosmic garden other than he is from southern italy and has had two eps out in 2016, one on hotmix and one on cosmic rhythm. he heads out the blocks here with reptilian treant , six minutes of lo-fi deep house that is roomy and atmospheric. lazy synths bring soul and a gentle chatter of claps and hits helps drive it along. rare centaur is also way below the surface but is darker and more celestial, with turbulent bass, frantic claps and angelic chords glowing like a white light at the end of a tunnel. dutch house and electro don orgue electronique then remixes reptilian treant into something that is slick and serene, with metallic lines dancing above rubbery drums as big piano chords boucle up top. it is joyous and colourful and truly majestic before final track apocalyptic moose takes us back down into a mournful house vibe that echoes chicago with its roughhewn analogue textures and lovestruck chords.

lord of the isles, a.k.a. neil mcdonald, has spent the better part of a decade steadily producing and releasing beautiful music. the esp institute has always wholeheartedly believed in neil’s work ethic and his journey as an artist who constantly refines his vision, and when we inevitably approached in hopes of working together, we were enamoured by the sheer breadth and depth of work he had in progress’. there are two types of artists. one internalises their process, endlessly perfecting their work while finding the endpoint a massive hurdle, in turn they produce immaculate yet very little art. the other is continuously inspired, so full of ideas they can barely work fast enough to articulate them all. the art becomes by-product of their larger trajectory and not just a collection of endpoints. lord of the isles seems to be both, always in an evolving state of process where the work is constantly shed to make way for the new layer growing beneath, yet he holds his cards closely, cherry picking when and with whom he releases his art into the world. neil is simply prolific. he shared with us a vast catalog of unheard beauty, which over a long span of time was collaboratively shaped into his debut album “in waves”. the title speaks to neil’s process both intimately and from afar, it speaks to the emotional ebb and flow of the music itself, and ultimately it speaks to the listener. ahead of the album’s release, we are proud to share with you the single ‘weh-in’, a mesmerizing arpeggio melody that opens and closes, purrs and barks, and plays nicely with its percussive accompaniment over more than 10 minutes. this lengthy single version of the track is joined by a dark and stormy, exclusive non-album cut entitled ‘pik’, as well as a big room rave remix by esp institute resident ian blevins, which take us to a slightly more frantic place while retaining the euphoric essence of the original.

there are several performances in the movie, notably from established early hip hop groups, grandmaster melle mel & the furious five, doug e. fresh, afrika bambaataa & soulsonic force and the treacherous three. as a member of the treacherous three, kool moe dee also appeared in the film.
beat street’s impact was felt internationally as well as throughout the united states. in germany, for example, beat street is credited with introducing the hip hop movement to the country.

bergen’s christian tilt returns to norwegian label ploink with his debut album ‘alt skjedde jæla fort’ this september. norwegian christian tilt’s dedication to techno over the last two decades has securely placed him in high ranks to play alongside the likes of the zenker brothers, margaret dygas and ploink label head thomas urv at clubs such as berghain, jaeger and Østre - all in the last year. here though we see christian tilt make a return to ploink for a second time with a five track lp comprised of an intricate cross-section of syncopated rhythms and dubbed-out techno. ‘dos were the days’ slowly builds hi-hats and punchy kick drums, before a deep-synth melody drives the composition forward. up next is the stripped back ‘btl’ that combines otherworldly aesthetics with a steady bass rattle throughout, before the gritty ‘a visit from france’ unleashes a dark low-end, murky synth drones and frantic pad sequences. a relentless 9 minute affair titled ‘i only work late nights’ then swells and pulsates over an unremitting beat, before ‘Øreverk’ rounds off the package with frenzied clangs, muted hits and rhythmic percussion.

sing with me: much in the same vein of the mannheim house sound made popular by artists like johnny d, nick curly, christian burkhardt etc. bretts gives us a deep but driving track centered around an african boy singing. brett chops the sample up to create a choir of ethereal voices to support the boys singing. as the track progresses it takes a left turn into weirdville through some dramatic synth tweaks & sweeps. this track is perfect for anyone who likes to dance standing up, with their head down and first firmly in the air. speaking japanese: many people will tell you learning to speak japanese is one of the most difficult languages to learn, and theyre right. lucky for you, brett has done all the work by translating his message into sound. the core inspiration for this track is based on a sample from a song by get physical owner and artist mandy. they were kind enough to let brett use the sample and run wild with it. the result is 8 minutes and 12 seconds of over driven 909s, rolling bass lines and a pad so thick you need a fork to eat it. all of this keeps the calm while frantic chatter and out of this world fxs take you to a japanese after party somewhere in shibuya.

after the successful -la jupe volante- project, whose b-side has been synchronised on the australian tv series the offspring (channel ten), kind & kinky zoo are back with some hard hitting pure laidback style music. they have received massive support both in the clubs and on the airwaves and now they are back, with on the flipside the help of lack of afro, or adam gibbons as he s known to his psychiatrist. two pistol paced and good-natured tunes as they are very capable of. a side - wonder zebra somewhere between retro psychedelia and afrobeat lies the wonder zebra. speeding along à la calibro 35, the feel is frantic and thrilleresque. now wonder kind & kinky zoo are a big hit on foreign tv shows. b side - v.l.a.m. (loa remix) a breezy bite-sike chunk of head nodding, foot tapping funky beats. led by a warm, sunny flute and irresistable rhodes, rather reminiscent of a 60s slice of dancefloor-friendly acid jazz. small but perfectly formed.

after an a-side debut on m_red ltd’s heady 10’’ series, shadowy outfit overall severity return with their first full outing for key vinyl. much like the slabs of steely sonic wares that have paved the way before it, “knowing the healing” presents three works of on-point dance floor material we’ve come to associate with the underground tastemaker. “explain pain” is the ep’s aggravated opener. a pounding kick and itchy percussion unfurls into a din of claps and noises, spliced with melodious peals and a low-slung sort of groove. “backfiring nerves” is one of those cool peak-time weapons: frantic yet subtle, deeply groovy and plied with much-loved vintage crashes. “parasympathetic” then concludes in the form of a chugging basement bomb awash with bleary acid tones, crystal hats and muted dissonant chimes. all in all, “knowing the healing” marks a powerful entry into the ring from these ones-to-watch newcomers.

first release from new glasgow based label nord­süd recordings. the label is owned by lee duncan who records as leeon (seventh sign) and it will be him who has the honour of providing the first outing with a remix of the title track from friend and sometime collaborator hutton drive (domenic cappello ­ subclub, seventh sign, soma, frantic flowers, etc.)

sam kdc returns with perhaps his most unique release to date. four tracks that well and truly blur the lines between many genres, while keeping the tempo steady at 85/170 bpm. immolate kicks off proceedings, with its ethnic vocal chant and tripping kick drums. eerie vibes from start to finish. moving on to the frantic navigation to nowhere, which opens with an ominous arp and frenetic kick drums build up to an uneasy acid lead. flip side opens with vessel, which keeps the atmosphere dark and introduces techno sensibilities to the fold. finally, purgatory wraps things up with yet another frenzied climax. the order & the entity is a rewarding listen offering something truly unique. we guarantee you will not have heard music like this anywhere else!

the next bleep release comes in the form of spaces debut ep, one. showcasing a wide range of styles and production talent, the ep opens with the frantic rush of beats and hushed voices of *apologies* before a reese-like bassline slices through the mix, coming across like a darkside snd remix. next up is *outside in* bridging the gap between edmx style electro-funk & gescom-style glitch. on the flip we are presented with *lever*, a broken techno track of the highest calibre, chopped snares and a off-kilter acid line whipped together to devastating effect while the ep’s coda, *in wait* combines a kaleidoscope of beats transported through an ambient techno mainframe before fading into oblivion. sounding like no other, this new artist makes his mark with clean rhythmic programming set against dirty compressed textures. the first in a series of releases, expect to hear a lot more from spaces. the vinyl edition is limited to 300 copies worldwide.

ceol is the moniker adopted by glasgow’s dom cappello and lee duncan. dom’s productions as hutton drive have appeared on cult labels like soma and the frustrated funk sub-label, frantic flowers, whilst as half of harri & domenic he continues to hold down the residency at glasgows legendary sub club. fellow glaswegian lee duncan records as leeon and debuted in 2012 on the cult seventh sign label. lee will also return under his solo alias later this year.

if youve been even the most casual participant in or observer of the nyc dance music and club scene over the past decade, youve most definitely encountered luca venezia, a.k.a. curses, who once was better known as drop the lime, a central figure in the trouble & bass crew. where dtl was all stripped and chewed dubstep and grime, curses is clearly of a house bent, albeit one thats been cut with plenty of heavy bass, breakbeat-leaning drums, and a frantic energy that one wouldnt find on classic chicago 12inches.

repress 2014 - next up in the 10 inch series on mos_deep another heavy 2-tracker of d marc cantu, which will be followed by a (mini)-album later this year. the opening track is a fierce chicago-styled banger kicking off with an extremely solid and frantic bassline while d marcs low-pitched voice asks us >how are we doing?<. the track slowly evolves into a deep and atmospheric masterpiece with spatial strings slowly expanding throughout the track.
>how are we doing?< is counter-balanced by the fragility and subtlety on the flipside. >a second earth< is a laid-back and emotional retro-futuristic techno track overflowing with sadness and melancholy, echoing the sounds of the artificial-intelligence era. like a lost vessel drifting through space this track captivates and terrifies at the same time. a beauty and a beast!

pavel khudyakov aka brain crisis. a young producer making a sound that teebee has described as *like aliens mining a colony out of metal* and the producer to watch in 2014. brain crisis *hands up* is proper rude bwoy skanker and has become one of the biggest tunes in calyx & teebees dj sets. on the flip brain crisis & teddy killers join forces for *local 2* a cold piece of d&b pressure. creating a track that is full of bruising bass, techno fear & frantic drums.

oberman knocks original version (white) is a laid-back affair housed within a glassy place of worship, echoing with monastic vocals, strings, wind instruments and field recordings, which are offset by synthetic beats, funk bass and entwined sleazy vocals.
in contrast autechres remix (black), panning out at just over 17 minutes long, is everything that you wouldd expect from the duo – a frantic, fractured and detailed to within an inch of its life piece, that has no need to build, but instead unravels and mutates into what is an unmistakable autechre crescendo.
whilst both versions play out at opposite ends of the tempo spectrum, what connects them is that they are both emotional machine music with guts and vigour.
